Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest base camp trek is one of the finest trekking destinations in the world, where you not only get to see the world’s tallest peak, Mount Everest but many other high peaks of the world such as Makalu and Lhotse. The journey starts from Kathmandu with a flight to the Lukla, The gateway to Mount Everest. The flying experience to reach Lukla will be simply breathtaking with splendid views of dense green as well as snow-capped mountains and bird’s eye view of tiny villages on the high peaks. Alternatively, one can decide to trek for 4 to 5 days from Ziri to reach Lukla.

The trek for Mount Everest Base Camp starts from Lukla. The trail goes through lots of spectacular Buddhist villages. The trail offers many unseen sights such as a tiny monastery on top of a mountain or one at the edge of a mountain, the views are spectacular and jaw dropping. The high altitude Sherpa Villages and their hospitality are a unique experience. You will cross many hanging bridges on the way to the Everest Base Camp and some of them are really high enough to increase your heart beats. The region is home to 4 of the top 10 highest peaks in our planet, namely The Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Makalu and Mount Cho Oyu.

There are several other sub 7000 meters peaks too. If you are really lucky then you may spot some of these rarest species in the world such as the Red Panda, Musk Deer, a Danphe (Himalayan Monal and the national bird of Nepal) or a Snow Leopard. On the way to Everest Base Camp, you will see several memorials being raised in the honor of the brave climbers who ended their lives in several expeditions dating from the last 100 years.

Everest Base Camp trek is a challenging trek for any trekker and certainly it’s not the toughest trek in the world. There are several other treks in Himalaya which are tougher than the Everest Base Camp Trek.

However, barring the Day 1’s trek from Lukla to Phakding, the rest of the days are challenging and you need 6-7 hours of trekking a day. You need to acclimatize for the high altitude on your way so that you can trek further without any problems. We generally take 2 rest days, one in Namche Bazaar and the other in Dingboche. These rests and our complete itinerary are planned keeping in mind the altitude gain recommendations issued by government of Nepal and other competent entities. We believe the trek is achievable by anyone and the only fitness needed to complete is your mental fitness.
