Gokyo Lakes are considered highest freshwater lake systems in the world! Trek to Gokyo Lakes always a trekkers dream the pristine water the magnificent views of gigantic mountain peaks, huge glaciers and the Sherpa villages makes this trek very special.

The trek starts from Lukla after reaching Lukla in a tiny mountain flight from Kathmandu and the trail goes through many picturesque villages and mountains. You can cross many hanging bridges on Dhud Koshi river before reaching Gokyo. The trek starts from beautiful alpine zone and when you arrive at Gokyo it’s change to Nival zone where you can see glaciers, mountain peaks and a completely tree less heaven.

While trekking to Gokyo Lakes you can see many spectacular Sherpa villages, Sagarmatha National Park, Many mountain peaks like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho oyu, Nuptse, Pumori and many more. The best part of this trek is you can see four biggest peaks (1st: Everest, 4th: Lhotse, 5th: Makalu, 6th: Cho Oyu) in the world very clearly during this trek. Also you can enjoy the finest view of Ngozumpa glacier and its ice falls during 5th Gokyo Lakes hike.


Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu(1,400 meters / 4,593 feet).

Upon arrival at the historic city of Kathmandu, you will be checked into the hotel. Our representative will give you a brief about this trekking expedition. During leisure, you may consider visiting the popular Thamel street that is home to several fine dining restaurants, pubs and plenty of trekking gears shops.

Day 2: Fly to Lukla(2,800 meters/9,186 feet) and Trek to Phakding(2,651 meters / 8,700 feet) : 3 Hours.

We will check out from the hotel early and head to the Tribhubhan Airport for our flight to Lukla. The flight to Lukla will be a memorable experience. To begin with, it will be a tiny Dornier aircraft that flies in such high altitude sectors. It will be about 40 minutes of flying time to reach Lukla. You will get some jaw dropping views of the Himalayan Ranges. If you are sitting on the left side then you can see a series of snow capped mountains and several mountain top villages as well as dense green forests. Landing at this tiny table top run way is always a thrilling experience, no matter how many times you have come here.

Our guides and porters will meet you outside the airport of Lukla. We will have a quick breakfast and start our trek to Phakding. Lukla to Phakding is a downhill trek and most of the trail goes through villages where you can see beautiful monasteries and many Buddhist stupas. On our way, we will cross the first hanging bridge in this trek and crossing it will be a thrilling experience for all the trekkers.

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,438 meters / 11,280 feet) : 6 - 7 Hours.

We will trek to Namche today and it is likely to take about 6 to 7 hours. Most of the time, today’s trekking trail will go alongside of the Dudh Koshi River and we will be crossing this very river as many as 5 times by hanging bridges. Once we start from Phakding and we cover a few portion of the trail, we will get to see a spectacular view of Thamserku Mountain. Today’s trail will also be passing through several Sherpa villages until we reach a place called Monjo. A village called Jorsale, is the last village before we reach Monjo and until Namche there are no more villages. So it important, that we have our lunch at Jorsale. After we pass Monjo, we will enter the protected region of the Sagarmatha National Park which covers the entire region of Everest and Khumbu Glacier. Once we start from Jorsale, we will get a hanging bridge to cross over to the other side of the river. The trail will be very close alongside of the river and in some instance we will pass through the river bed. Once we cover some distance, you can see the iconic twin hanging bridges from the trail. Once we cross these bridges the trail will be completely up-hill trek till we reach Namche Bazaar. This portion of the trek will strenuous and it is better if you walk at a pace that suits you the most. On a clear weather, you can get your first view of Mount Everest from this trail. You will get the first glimpse of Namche Bazaar once you arrive at the Namche Check Post. After Namche Check Post, we take several steps to reach Namche Bazaar.

Day 4: Acclimatization day in Namche.

Today’s day is kept for acclimatization in this high altitude, so we will stay in Namche. However, we will still explore this beautiful place and its surroundings.  We will visit Namche Museum and take a hike to beautiful Syangboche Airport (non operational). We will start a little late by 8:30 AM and first visit the Namche Museum. The museum has a spectacular flat ground and the views from this place are amazing. We can get to see several mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Kongde, Khumbila and many more. This very museum ground also houses a statue of Tenzing Norgay and it is a favorite photography spot for the trekkers. After visiting the Namche Museum, we will hike to the Syangboche Airport. It will be a steep hike, however it will not be strenuous. The non operational table top airport will surprise you and you will surely ask yourself, how could there be such a huge flat ground on a top of the mountain? After this, we will come down to Namche Bazaar or visit Khumjung Village, if time permits, we will visit the Hillary High School and the Khumjung Monastery.

Day 5: Trek to Mongla Village(3,950 meters / 12,959 feet) : 3-4 Hours.

We will start our trek for Mongla by 8 or 9 as the trekking time is less. The trail after Namche is really broad and an easy trek till the Kyangjuma village. After Kyangjuma, it will be an up-hill trek to Mongla. This will be a little tough hike, from the bottom end of the trail the Mongla Village will seem like an endless hike. The view from Mongla is really awesome. Especially, the view of Thamserku and Khangteka Mountain. Once we reach Mongla, we will take have our lunch and spend the entire day here in this beautiful tiny village.

Day 6: Trek to Machhermo(4,470 meters / 14,665 feet) : 5-6 Hours.

After Mongla, the trail goes downhill to Phortse Thanga. On your left side, you can see the famous Phortse village situated opposite the river Dudh Koshi. The trail will be up-hill once you cross Phortse Thanga, however it will not be as tough as the Mongla hike that you took yesterday. This trail goes through dense Rhododendron forest  and you have a chance to spot a muck deer or a Himalayan Monal, so keep your eyes rolling while you cross this trail. You will see several water falls on the way to Dole. If you look on your back from this trail, you will get some nice views of Phortse and Tengboche villages,also Thamserku and Khangteka mountains. It will take about 2 to 2.5 hours of trekking to reach Dole from Phortse Thanga. Dole is a small settlement with many tea houses and from this place you will get some massive views of Thamserku and Khangteka. After spending some time here we will trek to Machhermo.

Trek to Machhermo is easy and short trek. However, a very small portion at the beginning of the trek will be a little tough. You will see a spectacular view of Cho Oyu Mountain once you come atop of the trail from Dole. This sight Cho Oyu, will continue throughout the trek. On this trail, you can see Cho Oyu on your front and Thamserku and Khangteka on the back. It is an easy trail to reach Machhermo and will take about 3 to 4 hours to reach here. After reaching Machhermo you can roam around the place or take rest in our tea house.

Day 7: Trek to Gokyo (4,800 meters / 15,748 feet) : 5-6 Hours.

Today we start set ourselves early on a moderate trail to Gokyo. Once you start you can see the same view of Cho Oyu on the front and the view from the trail is really beautiful. We will get down to the river bank before hiking up to the moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier on a steep trail. We will see the first lake on our way. The first lake is a tiny one and we progress further the second will come and is really big comparison to the first one. One we cross further, we will get the third lake. The third lake is really big and beautiful. All the tea houses are situated on the bank of the third lake. The third lake is the most beautiful lake among the Gokyo Lakes system. Enjoy your day in a hotel/Tea house and soak yourself in the beauty of the Gokyo Lake and its surroundings.

Day 8: Hike Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters / 17,575 feet) : 5 Hours.

Today we will hike to Gokyo Ri and get one of the best views of Everest and some other mountains. The view from the Gokyo Ri is very special as you can see the chain of mountains in a straight line.  You can’t find the same view anywhere in the zone. On this trail, you can see a spectacular view of Gokyo Lakes from the mountain. We will return and stay at the same place in Gokyo.

Day 9: Hike to 5th Gokyo Lakes(4,980 meters / 16,339 feet) : 5 Hours.

Today we will visit 4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes. We will visit 4th Gokyo lake very close to Gokyo, hence we will go this lake first.  After 4th Gokyo Lake we will visit the  5th Lake, which will take about 1.5 hour from 4th lake.  We believe you must visit 5th Gokyo lake, as the view from this place is the best view in the entire Everest zone. You can see a massive view of Mount Everest from the 5th lake. Also, from this place, you can see a huge view of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang. You will get to see The Ngozumpa glacier from its source. This is the longest glacier of Himalayan zone. After spending enough time at the 5th lake we will come back to Gokyo and take rest in our hotel.

Day 10: Trek down to Mongla(3,950 meters / 12,959 feet) : 6- 7 Hours.

Today we will return to Mongla.  It will take 6-7 hours of trekking to reach here. We will cross Machhermo, Luza, Lhafarma, Dole and Phortse Thanga before reaching Mongla. After Phortse Thanga it is a small up-hill hike to reach Mongla. After reaching Mongla we will enjoy the massive view of Thamserku and Khangteka and overnight stay in a Tea House in Mongla.

Day 11: Trek down to Monjo(2, 835 meters / 9,301 feet) : 6-7 hours.

Today’s entire trek will be downhill. We will cross Kyangjuma, Namche and after Namche we will trek fully downhill up to Jorsale. After Jorsale we need to climb a few steps to reach Monjo.

Day 12: Trek back to Lukla(2, 800 meters / 9,186 feet): 5 - 6 Hours.

Today is the last day of trekking in this journey. The entire trail is easy and before Lukla it is a little tough as you need to climb many steps to reach Lukla.

Day 13: Lukla to Kathmandu (1,400 meters / 4,593 feet).

We will fly back to Kathmandu today. Mostly the flights are in morning time so you can reach in Kathmandu and explore the historic city.

Day 14: Departure

Check out by 12 PM and we will drop you at the airport after giving you a trek completion certificate.
